China-Egypt partnership important for Belt and Road

Egypt has been a strategically important partner for China in the Belt and Road Initiative. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has repeatedly demonstrated Cairo's interest in deepening cooperation in the Initiative. In fact, President El-Sisi has sent an eight-minister delegation to the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing.
Chinese ambassador to Egypt Song Aiguo told CGTN that ties between China and Egypt set a good example for relationships between developing countries, and both sides possess goodwill to form a closer relationship. 
China is now the biggest investor in Egypt's Suez Canal Area Development Project, according to Ahmed Darwish, chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone. This giant project, launched in 2014, aims to increase the role of the Suez Canal region in international trading and to develop the three canal cities of Suez, Ismailia and Port Said.
