We move down south, to the one place that's set to get a travel boost. In Zhuhai city, an inspection ceremony has been held at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. And that's something off the checklist in getting the super bridge open to public. CGTN's He Weiwei has more.
Another step towards the bridge's opening.
A group of experts pay an inspection visit to the main body of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. It's the world's longest cross-sea project, with a total length of 55 km. The main section of the project includes 23 kilometers of bridges, 7 kilometers of tunnels, and two artificial islands.
HE WEIWEI ZHUHAI "The mega bridge is a dual three-lane highway. Once operational, it will cut down driving time between the three cities, from the current three hours to a mere 30 minutes."
The inspection came after a ceremony was held at the end of 2017 to mark the completion of the main body's construction. Its lighting system was installed and tested.
YU LIE DEPUTY DIRECTOR, HONG KONG-ZHUHAI-MACAO BRIDGE AUTHORITY "The bridge will improve the connectivity of the bay area, boosting movement of personnel, goods, information and capital among the three places. It guarantees better transportation, development and integration of the region."
Before the bridge's opening to traffic, issues are still being discussed such as driver qualification, toll collection, and customs clearance at each of the three ends of the bridge. HWW, CGTN, ZHUHAI.
