Israeli consulate in Shanghai holds holocaust memorial

In Shanghai's Ohel Rachel Synagogue on the evening of April 24, white candles were lit for the annual holocaust memorial organized by the city's Israeli Consulate. Diplomats from 22 countries attended the event hosted by the Israeli Deputy Consul General Nadav Zysblat.

According to official data, over 20,000 Jews fled to Shanghai during the second world war, escaping from Nazi persecution with the help of the Chinese people. Deputy Consul General Zysblat expressed his gratitude to Shanghai and China during a speech at the event.

Speeches were also given by consulate generals from Brazil, France, Ireland, Canada and the acting consul general of Hungary, each sharing vivid stories about their people's bravery during the second world war.
