Over in Brazil, former Manchester City and Guangzhou Evergrande midfielder Robinho has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of rape. The 33-year-old was sentenced at a court in absentia for the incident which took place at a night club in 2013 during his time with AC Milan.
The court heard he and five other men sexually assaulted a 22-year-old woman after plying her with alcohol. The winger, who has 100 international caps, denies taking part and has vowed to fight the conviction. The sentence will be put on hold until all appeal processes have been completed with the victim receiving 71-thousand U-S dollars as compensation.
Robinho first rose to fame at Real Madrid in 2005 as a 21-year-old before signing for City in 2010 as the first big marquee transfer from the Sheikh Mansour ownership of the club. A stint in Milan came next which was followed by a six month loan deal with Evergrande in 2015 and then a return home to play for Atletico Mineiro.
