China Temple Fire: Highest wooden pagoda in Asia burns down
[]
A temple under reconstruction in Mianzhu City of southwest China's Sichuan Province caught fire on Sunday. No casualties were reported.
The fire burned down two halls and a 15-story wooden pagoda, reported to be the highest in Asia. The historic structure dates back to the 16th Century. It was being repaired following the massive Sichuan Earthquake nearly ten years ago. The work was half completed. Witnesses say the fire started at a temple hall and lasted over four hours before firefighters brought it under control. An investigation is under way.
