The CEO and chairman of British Airways, Alex Cruz, has apologized to thousands of passengers affected by the IT failure which crippled its services. He also asked passengers not to go to London's Heathrow airport unless they had a confirmed booking.

British Airways resumed some flights from the UK's two biggest airports, Heathrow and London Gatwick, on Sunday after a global computer crash left thousands of passengers stranded.

The airline said it aimed to operate a "near-normal schedule" of flights from Gatwick and the majority of flights from Heathrow. However, Heathrow airport told passengers not to go to the airport unless they were rebooked on other flights. It said it expected further delays and cancellations.

British Airways cancelled all its flights from Heathrow and Gatwick on Saturday after a power supply problem disrupted its flight operations worldwide, including its call centers and websites. The company said there was no evidence of any cyber attack.
