French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday visited Calais. He said he will not allow another makeshift migrant camp to mushroom in the northern port city.
EMMANUEL MACRON FRENCH PRESIDENT "Calais is not the back door to England and I want to be very clear to you that will continue to be the case. Under no circumstances will we allow illegal networks to emerge or develop here, under no circumstances will we let another Jungle camp appear here, or any other illegal occupation of land."
Macron earlier visited a migrant reception centre near Calais and spoke to both refugees and local officials. Macron said he would bolster resources to ensure police have what they need to maintain security while enforcing a "fair" migration policy.
Macron's visit comes ahead of a summit with Prime Minister Theresa May in Britain on Thursday. He is expected to push Britain to provide further money and resources to tackle the migrant flow, since Calais has long been a gathering point for refugees and migrants trying to reach the UK.
