Exiled Maldives opposition leader Mohamed Nasheed has vowed on Friday to run for president after the Supreme Court overturned his criminal conviction.
Clashes have erupted between police and Nasheed's supporters, who took to the streets of Male celebrate the decision and to call for the court's ruling to be upheld. Police reportedly fired tear gas at demonstrators gathered in the capital. Defense Minister Adam Shareef has urged for restraint.
