The Chinese city of Khorgos, located right on border with Kazakhstan, is a transport hub connecting China to Central Asia, South Asia and Europe. Khorgos was once a major town on the ancient Silk Road, serving as a bustling transshipment hub where traders from China and Central Asia would meet to exchange goods. But as these trade routes dried up, Khorgos eventually dissolved into the desert. The sands of time though have seen a changing of fortunes, thanks to heavy investments from China and Kazakhstan which have transformed Khorgos into a major city for trade along the Belt and Road. Dozens of new China-Europe railway lines, as well as the Western Europe-Western China Highway now pass through the city, giving the region a new lease on life.
