China's Ministry of Public Security is paying close attention to this incident. Minister of Public Security Guo Shengchun has arrived at the command center to oversee work, according to an official statement.

Deputy Minister of Public Security Huang Ming has led a working group to Fengxian County for further work, the statement added.

As of 7:45 p.m. local time, seven people have been killed and 66 others injured in the explosion. Among the injured, nine people are in a critical condition.

At least seven people were killed and 59 others injured in an explosion at a kindergarten in Fengxian County, east China's Jiangsu Province on Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened as children were waiting to be picked up after school. 

Two people died at the scene and five died later in hospital.

Nine people are seriously injured. 

Local authorities have launched a rescue operation and an investigation into the cause of the blast is underway.
