Bibliophiles are gearing up for the annual Beijing Book Fair from April 14 to 24, with more than 300 noted publishers, distributors and bookshops from across China due to take part and an array of book signings, readings, lectures and cultural forums on the program.
The main themes at this year’s outdoor event, held in the city’s large Chaoyang Park, are healthy lifestyles and popular science.
Some 400,000 books, audio-video products and electronic publications from home and abroad are expected to go on display at the fair's 600-plus booths.
Visitors will also find discounts and a book exchange market where they can barter with other book lovers or trade second-hand tomes for Fair coupons.

First held in 1990, the Beijing Book Fair has become an established tradition among the reading public in Beijing and neighboring regions.
According to the Chinese Academy of Press and Publication, reading is being increasingly done on smartphones and tablets but the traditional book format remains the first choice among serious readers in China.
The fair comes ahead of World Book Day on April 23.
