China's Ministry of National Defense spokesman Wu Qian said on Wednesday that China firmly opposes the so called "China threat" theory mentioned in the US national military report.
The US Department of Defense published its Annual Report to Congress on Military and Security Developments Involving the People's Republic of China 2017 on Wednesday, which includes comments on China's national defense and military development, as well as the situation across the Taiwan Strait.
Wu noted that China has been adhering to peaceful developing path and defensive-orientated national defense policy. "China will not seek military expansion or sphere of influence and will remain a resolute power to preserve world peace," said Wu.

Regarding the East China Sea and South China Sea, China will firmly safeguard its national sovereignty and security while preserving regional peace and stability.
Wu said that China's national defense budget has always been "transparent" and that China's military reform, ordnance development and construction of cyberspace defense capability was "legitimate and reasonable".
"Healthy and stable bilateral military relations meet the interests of both sides, which calls for joint efforts. We hope that the US will treat China's national defense and military development reasonably and objectively, work with the Chinese side to implement crucial consensus reached by the heads of the states, and do more constructive to the development of bilateral military relations," said Wu.
