During the 19th national congress of the CPC, General Secretary Xi Jinping called on the Kuomintang Party and CPC to contribute to the peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Strait. Earlier, the head of Taiwan Affairs Office, Zhang Zhijun also said that solid steps would be taken to promote peaceful reunification.

ZHANG ZHIJUN HEAD OF TAIWAN AFFAIRS OFFICE "Currently, cross-strait relations have reached a deadlock. The main reason behind this situation is the DDP abandoned the 1992 Consensus, which is the foundation for cross-strait relations. Only by recognising the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, can cross-strait relations move onto a new era."
