To South America as Argentinian striker Carlos Tevez has returned to his homeland for a third spell with childhood club Boca Juniors. The 33-year-old had a tumultuous but highly lucrative time with Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League last season, only managing three goals and hardly featuring for the club in the later stages of the season. Now the former Manchester United striker is back where it all began and despite being in the twilight of his career, the level of ambition remains the same.
CARLOS TEVEZ BOCA JUNIORS STRIKER "I returned because I want to win the Copa Libertadores, like every fan. I think I don't have many years left in football, and I want to enjoy it. It doesn't matter why I left or returned, the most important thing is the present, that I am back, that I am happy, and I want to enjoy these two years with Boca because it is the last thing I have left."
In 2016, Tevez made headlines all over the world when he joined the CSL from Boca for a reported 256,000 Euros a week on a two-year deal. However, his form did not match the high salary and a disappointing goal return was made worse by controversial comments on Chinese football, accusations from management about being out of shape, and a visit to Disneyland on a match day when injured. The former Argentina international had enjoyed a successful career prior to his arrival in the PRC, winning the UEFA Champions League with United in 2008 to go with league titles in Italy, England, Brazil and Argentina. The Argentine Primera season is underway and he could feature in the "SuperClasico" against River Plate on January 21st. The club known as "La Mitad Mas Uno" are currently top by three points with 18 games to go.
