CES 2018: Bizzare inventions at the Consumer Electronics Show
[]
One of the big draws at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is that you just don't know what you're going to find. The event's known for having some of the most bizarre technology alongside some of the most revolutionary. CGTN's Phil Lavelle has been taking a look at some of this year's more random offerings.
There's loads to see as you walk around CES. But a lot of it leaves you asking.
PHIL LAVELLE LAS VEGAS Why Like, why was this product ever invented. Because random doesn't come close.
Case in point - the chess set that moves by itself. Perfect for the person with no friends.
"That's me"
And creepishly. Kinda cool.
NEEL JAIN SQUARE OFF "The board takes two seconds to think then starts to move and that's how it works."
If you do have a friend of the feline kind, they'll love this.
JASON SMITH AUTO PETS "It is an automated self cleaning litter box. You'll never have to scoop again."
The Litter Robot. A smart, wifi enabled kitty bathroom.
Yep. You get a notification every time your cat poops. Marvellous.
PHIL: "Why would I want to know every time my cat goes to the bathroom? "
JASON SMITH AUTO PETS "You might not want to know every time but you might want to know when they're not going to the bathroom anymore or they're going too much, so we can show you when there's a change which may be important for their health and you can communicate it to the vet."
Animals everywhere, in fact. From this, an actual door for your pet. let them in using an app. Kinda like a hi-tech cat flap. Great for when the dog forgets his keys. To the camera that lets the dog take a selfie and send it to you at work. And get a reward for doing it. I'm not joking here.
CHRISTOPHER MADEIRAS PETCUBE "It's face detection that will recognise your pets looking for you, looking into the camera and it will send you a push notification and say 'hey here i am' and at that point, you can either click on them and either engage with them or flick out treats."
Some of the inventions, you can see really taking off.
PHIL LAVELLE LAS VEGAS "Like this - if you like your wine, but you can't manage a whole bottle on your own, like that's a problem for some people. This'll help you out."
This lets the wine out, but keeps the oxygen out too and the cork in tact. So you can pop the not-technically-opened-yet-still-half-drunk bottle back in the cellar. And it'll keep for years more.
YVETHE TYSZKA CORAVIN "The Coravin Mobile 11 goes on top of the bottle, the needle goes through the cork. you tilt the bottle, the wine comes out in the amount that you want, you till it back, it stops, and when you remove it, the cork will reseal to keep your wine fresh."
And it's fresh ideas that CES is all about. However odd they may seem. Phil Lavelle, CGTN at CES in Las Vegas.
