National Basketball Association: Minnesota 120 - Portland 103
[]
Over in the NBA, the Minnesota Timberwolves are starting to round into form. After struggling to begin the campaign, they have won 11 of their last 14. That streak coinciding with the decision to revolve the offense around Jimmy Butler. Jimmy G Buckets, (G means, gets) came over from Chicago in the off-season, and has the T-pups challenging the San Antonio Spurs for the third seed in the West. Butler and Minny at home to Portland, and looking to win their fifth straight game in the Twin Cities, and complete a perfect homestand of that length for the first time since 2001.
Things are close in the second Q, but Nemanja Bjelica's three-ball kick starts to home side, as the hosts take the lead. Former Rookie of the Year Karl Anthony Towns stretches it to a 10-point advantage with the jumper. Those are his first points of the game, we're almost at the half.
After recess, the team from the Twin Cities adds to the margin, The Big K-A-T is at it again, hitting another J. He finishes with 20, and its a 14-point advantage. The hosts cause a turnover and go the other way in transition, Andrew Wiggins finds Butler for the finish, and its a 22-point bulge.
Off to the fourth, and Butler uses the pick, and pulls up for the jumper -- he finishes with a game-high 24 -- and the T-Wolves are cruising.
More from the hosts on the defensive end, Giorgi Deng with the block, and Minny is off and running, Butler, eventually sets up from outside the arc, and cans the triple. The Timberwolves go on to a 17-point win -- their fifth straight, and all of those victories have been by at least double-digits.
Also, Anthony Davis went off for a season-high 48 points, and hauled in 17 rebounds as New Orleans toppled New York in overtime. The Brow even scored with 3.5 seconds to go to send the game into the extra session. Miami picked up their seventh straight victory by topping Milwaukee. The Heat are just a game back of Cleveland for third in the Eastern Conference standings. Indiana has won four of five, after having an easy time with Phoenix.
