Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted Beijing's planning and construction work during an inspection tour to the capital’s new airport, calling it one of the most significant tasks now and in the near future.
Xi paid a visit to Beijing’s new airport, which is located in the Daxing district in the southern part of the capital on Thursday, to inspect the relocation work and the construction site of the airport’s main terminal.

The construction work of the new airport started in 2014, and it is designed to accommodate 110 million passenger trips and 880,000 take-offs and landings per year. The relocation work has involved over 20,000 people from more than ten villages.
Xi inspected the construction of the relocation buildings, checked the planning of the project, and even visited some specific flats under construction to get to know the details, including the layouts of the apartments, the constructive materials and the surrounding supporting facilities.
He emphasized the rules of justice and transparency during the relocation work, calling to put the people’s interests and livelihood first.

While checking the construction work of the new airport’s terminal, he watched a video to get to know the functions and constructive planning of the new airport, and listened to a report of the airport’s role in the integration of the transporting system of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area.
Knowing that many new technologies have been applied to the construction work to ensure accuracy, Xi encouraged the workers to carry on in their work and forge high-quality projects.

Xi said the new airport will become a new landmark for the capital, as well as a new engine for the country’s development, so that strict construction management must be assured on every single project.
The airport is expected to be completed and go into operation in 2019. Located about 46 kilometers from Tiananmen Square, the new airport is expected to greatly relieve the train on the current Beijing Capital International Airport after entering service. ‍
