US Vice President Mike Pence has blasted politicians for causing the government to shut down after the Senate failed to agree on a last-minute deal to fund its operation.
MIKE PENCE US VICE PRESIDENT "Democrats in the Senate, with a few exceptions on either side, chose to put politics ahead of our national defense. Put politics ahead of meeting the obligations of our national government and that's just unacceptable and its disappointing. I think what we have to do in this moment is to demand that the congress to do their job. Democrats in the Senate, step up."
Trump blamed the Democrats for the crisis, saying they were taking Americans hostage with their demands. On Friday, senators blocked a bill to extend government funding through February 16. Those opposing the bill were mostly Democrats, having been locked in a bitter dispute over immigration and border security.
