Global Stock Markets: Wall Street up again, European shares churn lower
[]
Wall Street resumed its upward trend Wednesday. While Europe's major stock markets mostly churned lower as investors took their cue from downbeat sentiment in Asia.
US stocks recovered from Tuesday's sharp downside reversal, with earnings results from Dow member Goldman Sachs and Bank of America fostering a mixed reaction. The Dow headed upwards, pushing against the 26 thousand level. European bourses opened lower, mirroring moves in Asia, as earnings updates from companies weighed in. Luxury fashion brand Burberry and educational publishing company Pearson were among the top fallers after disappointing trading updates. Their losses along with weakness in the heavyweight financial and healthcare sectors, dragged Britain's FTSE down as much as 0.3 percent.
