These ice lollies are definitely a visual feast, but before your appetite is whetted, you might want to know that these frozen "snacks" are made of contaminated water, collected from 100 locations around Taiwan by three art majored students. /NetEase Photo
Hung I-chen, Guo Yi-hui and Cheng Yu-ti are students at the Taiwan University of the Arts. They spent one year traveling around the island to collect samples of polluted water and freeze them into popsicles, then preserving them by using polyester resin. /NetEase Photo
Their project aims to raise awareness about how pollution is too close to us that we often ignore it and overlook its manifestations in everyday life. /NetEase Photo
The three once sneaked into the largest wastewater treatment plant on the island as it was reportedly pumping polluted water into the sea. They visited cities, villages and many unobserved but heavily contaminated corners of the island in the course of preparing for their project. /NetEase Photo
The students also designed fancy covers to wrap each popsicle, along with a label of the sample's source and pollution type. "Flavors" varied between discarded fishing nets, littered cigarette butts, wood pieces and paper. /NetEase Photo
The project was nominated for the Young Pin Design Award and it was featured in the New Generation of Design Exhibition in the city of Taipei last month. /NetEase Photo
