The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation mechanism was jointly established by six countries along the river, namely China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. The mechanism has yielded tangible results. According to the latest Chinese official data, in the first 10 months of 2017, trade between China and the other five countries in the Lancang-Mekong area reached more than 17 billion US dollars, up 15.6 percent from the same period of the previous year. In the same period, China's investments in the five countries reached about 2.7 billion US dollars, up 22.3 percent from the previous year. A joint law enforcement center was founded by the six countries to fight against cross-border crimes. The mechanism also set up the Water Resources Cooperation Center to protect water resources and the environment in the region.
