Khan’s empire: Art events celebrate Kublai Khan in Beijing

A series of performance events based on the life of Kublai Khan and Mongol culture has been organized by the Inner Mongolia Grassland Culture Protection Foundation in Bejing’s Tongzhou district. 
One featured event was the premiere of a new musical titled Dream Dynasty, telling the story of Kublai Khan’s empire, including his pioneering inland and maritime trade routes and his management of multiple ethnic groups and religions.

Created by Don Frantz, a Broadway producer from the United States, with art troupes from Xilin Gol League in Inner Mongolia, Dream Dynasty will be also staged in Zhenglan Banner, Xilin Gol League later this year. The ancient Yuan Dynasty capital of Xanadu, founded by Kublai Kahn, was located in present day Zhenglan Banner.
A media conference for the release of the historical drama series Kublai Khan, two movies about the reign of Kublai Khan, a forum related to nomadic culture and a documentary on the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) were also held as part of the Beijing performance series.

Kublai Khan was the fifth Great Khan of the Mongol Empire, reigning from 1260 to 1294. As the founder the Yuan Dynasty in China in 1271, he ruled as the first Yuan emperor until his death in 1294.
