We begin in Beijing, where Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with the visiting UK prime minister, Theresa May. President Xi said the UK was the first Western country to recognize the People's Republic of China, and his visit to Britain in 2015 was the beginning of what he called a "Golden Prologue" of bilateral ties. The Chinese president said both countries should conform to today's trends, and look to further promote their "Golden Era" of relations. He said the two sides should enhance cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. Meanwhile, Theresa May said the UK was willing to enhance communication on major international and regional issues, and work with China to promote a global strategic partnership in the 21st Century.
