China has invited US President Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to visit Beijing later this year, a White House official said on Tuesday.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said at a daily news briefing in Beijing on Wednesday that he had seen reports of the visit but that he was not aware of any details.

He said leaders of China and the US have maintained close communication and exchanges, which is critical for the development of their bilateral relationship.

Ivanka was invited to the Chinese embassy's Lunar New Year reception, where her daughter sang in Mandarin.

Kushner helped plan and attended the US-China summit at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in April. Trump has since had warm words for Xi, praising him for cooperation and efforts to rein in Beijing's nuclear-armed neighbor, the DPRK.
