Network information security is a hot topic right now, and because of this, China Mobile and other telecom operators have been working to achieve effective technical monitoring to manage telecommunication fraud, and they're making that a reality by using the defensive capabilities of large data and cloud computing.
According to China Mobile information services, "Tiandun (Sky Shield)," an anti-fraud app, was developed independently by China Mobile, and was piloted in Zhejiang Province. The new app was able to precisely intercept fraudulent phone calls from international and domestic networks, and accomplish risk assessments for victims during the calling process.
From August to October 2016, in cooperation with public security departments, Tiandun prevented 2,203 fraud cases and restored economic losses amounting to over 17.7 million yuan for local residents.

China Mobile has also debuted a device that can nullify malicious base-stations. The stations are used by spammers to send out junk mail and spam. The device was the first of its kind made by China Mobile, and has been able to accurately locate malicious base-stations and counter them automatically, which effectively solves the difficulty of finding the base-stations.
Until now, law enforcement agencies have solved 6,771 malicious base-station cases, seized 7,474 sets of equipment, and arrested 9,182 suspects with the help provided by China Mobile.
Telecom scam remains a major issue in China, with police cracking 93,000 cases of telecom and Internet fraud in just 11 months from January to November 2016.
Xu Yuyu, an 18-year-old high school graduate in Linyi, Shandong Province, died on August 19, 2016, of cardiac arrest after she lost her tuition money to a telecom fraudster. The case had aroused public anger and extensive social concern over the rising occurrences of these types of crime.
