​Marriott Scandal: China presses for respect of its sovereignty, territorial integrity

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has responded to an apology by the American hotel chain Marriott International over a questionnaire scandal, in which the group listed Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Tibet as independent countries.
LU KANG CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTRY SPOKESPERSON "We welcome foreign investment, and the foreign companies here must respect China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, abide by China's laws and regulations and respect Chinese people's national sentiments. This is also the basic respect to the country that any foreign company that invests here must show."
In his apology, the Marriott CEO said the group would take measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Meanwhile, China has temporarily shut down the group's local websites to clear out any illegal or irregular information.
