Indonesia is the world's most active volcanic region. The nation with over 17,000 islands, lies on the Pacific "Ring of Fire", causing frequent volcanic and seismic activity. The country is home to more than 130 active volcanoes. Its most active are Kelud and Merapi on Java island which have been responsible for thousands of deaths.
And just last year, seven were killed after Mount Sinabung on the western island of Sumatra erupted. In 2014, 16 died from a Sinabung eruption. Mount Agung last erupted in 1963, killing more than 1,000 people. It is one of the deadliest eruptions to have occurred in the country.
