Cambodia's biggest hydropower dam – the 400-megawatt Lower Sesan 2 Hydropower Plant -- began operating last November. All eight of its hydro-generator units were designed and developed by China's leading turbine manufacturer. Our reporter Liu Yang spoke with one of the company's engineers in Cambodia, and visited the company's factory in Sichuan.
CHEN YONGZHANG, ENGINEER ENGINEER, DONGFANG ELECTRIC MACHINERY CO., LTD "The first two turbine hydro-generator units are already in operation. By the end of 2018, all 8 units will be fully operational, and they will cover a quarter of Cambodia's annual electricity demand."
Cambodia's biggest hydropower dam built with Chinese know-how Engineer Chen Yongzhang is overseeing the installation of 8 Turbine Hydro- generator units. The plant started operating last November, four years after construction began. Xin Jianzhong just returned from Cambodia to China after nine months working on the project. He and his team put the plant's first two turbine hydro-generator units into operation. Today, the two units produce 100 thousand kilowatts of electricity for Cambodian families and factories.
XIN JIANZHONG ENGINEER, DONGFANG ELECTRIC MACHINERY CO., LTD "Cambodia has a weaker industrial level. Many of our machinery parts had to be processed here in China, and then shipped to the dam for installation."
LIU YANG SICHUAN "The turbine behind me was designed and built for The Lower Sesan 2 Hydropower Plant - Cambodia's biggest hydro-electric dam. In about a month, the turbines will be installed and start generating electricity. The hydropower station built by China will help drive economic and social development in Cambodia."
Cambodia's northeastern regions used to rely on electricity imported from neighboring Laos. Now, residents in these provinces will have access to reliable electricity at cheap prices. The project is a key achievement in energy cooperation between China and Cambodia. Liu Yang CGTN Sichuan Province.
