One person is dead and several dozens injured after a strong earthquake struck off the coast of southern Peru Sunday morning.
Authorities walked back earlier statements that a second person had died and that 17 others were missing in a mine signs the quake's toll may not be as drastic as first feared. The magnitude 7.1 quake did injure dozens and cause homes and roads to collapse. The US Geological Survey put the epicenter 124 kilometers southwest of the town of Puquio - at a depth of around 36 kilometers. No tsunami warning was issued.
