As the first Chinese region to open up to the world, Pearl River Delta (PRD), the cradle of modern Chinese thinking, is now facing challenge to connect its geographically incoherent terrain.
But as China's economy develops, the country's engineers are redefining what infrastructure development means in the 21st century with the construction of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

A lesson from overseas

Chinese engineers compared PRD with New York City. Similar to the Pearl River Delta, rivers divide the city into five administrative districts.
To commute in between these islands, people need to use bridges. New York has some 2,000 bridges, big and small, that weaves the city into a whole and drove its economy forward.

The PRD can operate on the same logic as that of New York. With the massive Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, moving people and linking resources in Hong Kong, Macao and Chinese mainland, will be easier. Upon completion, this magnificent bridge will not only drive the economy of the three places but also transform the life of the local people.
