China and Argentina agree to promote bilateral ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with his Argentine counterpart Mauricio Macri in Beijing on Wednesday. After a welcome ceremony for President Macri, the two leaders agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in all fields and promote the China-Argentina comprehensive strategic partnership.
Their meeting came following Macri's attendance at the Belt and Road Forum, which was held on May 14-15 in Beijing.
President Xi hailed Argentina's support for and active participation in the Belt and Road Initiative, and stressed that Latin America is a natural extension of the Maritime Silk Road in the 21st century. He expressed willingness to strengthen cooperation with Latin American countries, including aligning their development strategies through the Belt and Road Initiative, and jointly building a community of a shared future.

Macri said that Argentina is committed to promoting the China-Argentina comprehensive strategic partnership. Argentina reaffirmed its commitment to the one-China policy and is willing to promote mutual beneficial cooperation and mutual understanding between the two countries and peoples.
China and Argentina are scheduled to sign several accords confirming investments of billions of US dollars which include nuclear plants, railways, hydroelectric dams and other infrastructure projects.
2017 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
