South Korea's special presidential envoy Hong Seok-hyun has met US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and high officials of the Senate and the Parliament. Hong expressed the new government's stance on the South Korea-US relationship and the THAAD anti-missile system.
Hong said that President Moon Jae-in fully recognizes the importance of their ally and believes the two sides need closer cooperation on the DPRK nuclear issue. Tillerson said Washington wants Pyongyang to honor its promise of no hostility and no longer conduct nuclear or missile tests.
Hong will also meet with John McCain, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, on Friday.
