US President Donald Trump has called for stronger sanctions on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) following its latest ballistic missile test on Sunday morning.
A White House statement said "let this latest provocation serve as a call for all nations to implement far stronger sanctions against North Korea [the DPRK]," and stressed that the country maintains its "ironclad commitment" to stand with its allies in the face of the threat posed by the DPRK.
South Korea and Japan have been watching the situation closely with the US, read the statement.
As the latest missile landed in the Sea of Japan, closer to Russia than to Japan, the White House added, "the President cannot imagine that Russia is pleased." The missile landed just under 100 kilometers south of Vladivostok, the headquarters of the Russian Navy’s Pacific fleet, reported CNN citing a US official.

The US Pacific Command said it was assessing the type of missile but it was "not consistent with an intercontinental ballistic missile".
Japanese Defense Minister Tomomi Inada said that the missile could be of a new type, as it flew 700 kilometers and reached an altitude of over 2,000 kilometers, which is further and higher than the intermediate-range missile that the country tested in February.
This latest launch comes just days after the inauguration of new South Korean President Moon Jae-in. Moon has slammed the missile test as a "reckless provocation," and called it a clear violation of UN Security Council sanctions.
