Even though the track is still wet and muddy from intermittent rain earlier in the day, the pre-race favorite Always Dreaming takes the lead from the starting bell alongside State of Honor, who fades away like the other challengers before the final stretch.
This is the fifth straight year the favorite has won this event. Always Dreaming's owner Todd Pletcher and jockey John Velasquez both had previous Kentucky Derby victories, and now joining forces has made the duo two-time winners of the Garland of Roses.

While the 143rd edition of the Run for the Roses had more than 158-thousand people pack the park in Louisville, it would also attract many celebrities to the Churchill Downs like Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt who thought he could outpace the stars of Saturday's show, at least for a few seconds.
Known as the fastest exciting two minutes in sports for its approximate duration, the horse race is held annually on the first Saturday in May in Louisville, Kentucky and caps the two-week-long Kentucky Derby Festival.
