‍President Xi Jinping talked with US President Donald Trump over the phone on Wednesday morning. During a regular press briefing, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang explained why the conversation happened in such a short period of time after their recent summit, and what they talked about this time.
“Isn’t it a good thing that the two presidents remain close communication? After the Mar-a-Lago meeting between President Xi and President Trump, both China and the US are working on implementing the consensus we reached. The two leaders talked about the Korean Peninsula situation, including the nuclear issue, and matters related to Syria. China advocates for denuclearization. All parties should communicate for a peaceful Korean Peninsula. I believe the US is clear about China's standpoint," said Lu.

China's special representative on Korean Peninsula affairs, Wu Dawei, arrived in Seoul on Tuesday to try to find a peaceful resolution to the current nuclear issue on the peninsula.
The Foreign Ministry said Wu has reiterated China’s stance on solving the issue in South Korea. “The current Korean Peninsula situation is complicated. Any actions that deteriorate the situation are irresponsible and dangerous. All parties should keep calm, so that the situation won't get worse.”
"Currently, the situation is very sensitive on the peninsula, no party should take any action to escalate the tension there, it will be very risky. And parties should exercise restraint, instead of provoking each other," said Lu.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Sunday that the DPRK must stop all weapons testing before further diplomatic talks can take place. He stressed that the goal of the US is to realize the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and it was not interested in “regime change” in the DPRK.
Lu echoed with Tillerson saying that it is also China’s goal to realize the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
China welcomes and expects the relative parties to enhance trust and understanding via dialogues, said the spokesperson, adding that China’s dual-halt approach should be carefully considered by all parties to help the Korean nuclear issue return to the track of dialogue.
