Press conference of FM Wang Yi: New media brings Foreign Ministry closer to people

The Chinese Foreign Ministry will make better use of new media to provide better services to the people, said Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday.
While taking a question on how the ministry will fit new media trends into their daily work, Wang said the ministry has already opened over 130 new media accounts and garnered over 12 million fans on China’s social media Sina Weibo.
He added that new media has brought the ministry closer to its people, and that officials welcome suggestions, comments and complaints.
Serving the people is the continuing goal of the ministry, said Wang Yi.
The minister also announced that a WeChat version of the Foreign Ministry hotline 12308 will be launched in two weeks, so that people can also seek advice through the WeChat platform as well as still being able to dial up the hotline.
He made the remarks at a press conference on the sidelines of the current Two Sessions in Beijing.
