The Second Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Leaders' Meeting, themed "Our River of Peace and Sustainable Development", is to be held in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh today. The meeting aims to further strengthen regional cooperation and integration between: Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
Senior officials from the six countries met yesterday, and finalized a Five-year Action Plan and an official declaration for the Summit. Initiated by China in 2015, the LMC has helped form dialogue mechanisms at many different levels. The first bi-annual summit took place in Sanya in 2016. Participants at that summit issued a 26-point statement emphasizing trust-building measures, institutional connectivity, economic links and cooperation on non-traditional security issues.
