In the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou, diners at a KFC restaurant can pay for their meals through an online facial recognition system. It's the first commercial application of the technology worldwide.
An order is complete in just three steps. First, open Alipay and the corresponding service. Then, confirm your meal on the restaurant's ordering screen and start facial recognition. Finally, input your phone number to confirm the payment, this is also to guard against people cheating the system.
Experts say that by combining the 3D camera and liveness detection algorithm, it can effectively block spoofing attempts and ensure account safety.
