Yemen Conflict: Separatists capture port city of Aden
[]
After two days of fighting, separatists in southern Yemen have captured the port city of Aden. A number of Yemeni ministers were holed up in Aden's presidential palace -- yet another blow to the country's embattled government. Yemeni president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi currently resides in Riyadh, as Saudi Arabia backs his beleaguered government.
Aden has become the refuge for more than forty-thousand civilians since Yemen's civil war began in March 2015. The International Committee of the Red Cross reports that since Sunday, at least 38 people were killed and 222 injured in Aden. The United Nations has called upon all parties in Yemen to adhere to international humanitarian law to protect civilians.
