Jargaltulgiin Erdenebat was Mongolia's 27th prime minister. He assumed office last year on July 7th, after his Mongolian People's Party swept the 2016 election. His party won over 40 percent of the votes and 65 out of 76 seats in Mongolia's legislature, the Great Khural. A majority of the ruling MPP party joined with the opposition to oust Erdenebat on September 7th.
Political instability has been a constant problem in landlocked Mongolia. The country has seen 13 governments since it passed its first constitution in 1992. Only two governments have finished a full four-year term. The last Mongolian prime minister to complete a four-year term was in 2004.
