South Korean military have airlifted all materials of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system to the golf course selected for the deployment in Seongju in the southeastern part of the country. The equipment was put in place over a period from April 11 to 13, indicating the THAAD system would be imminently constructed, said Yonhap News Agency on Thursday.
On Wednesday, 12 Chinook helicopters worked for the whole day, while construction machines including excavators, motor graders and bulldozers arrived at the site in advance.
South Korea's military said that THAAD should be deployed as soon as possible to counter the DPRK’s nuclear threat, but did not reveal the details of the equipment necessary to build facilities for the missile system, nor the exact date for THAAD's deployment.
