An oversupply of coal was one consequence of China’s rapid economic growth. Now as the country undergoes economic reforms and shifts toward more sustainable growth, many in the coal business have found themselves struggling. Huaping in southwest China’s Yunnan Province used to be a major coal county. Since the downturn in business began, coal mine owners there have actively been looking for a career change.
