While the Winter Olympics could bring a thaw in relations on the Korean Peninsula, tensions between the DPRK and the US remain high. Pyongyang has accused Washington of undermining the inter-Korean reconciliation process.
DPRK Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho sent a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday, saying the inter-Korean dialogue has produced good results. However, Ri blamed the US of aggravating the situation on the Korean Peninsula by deploying nuclear-powered aircraft carriers into the region. He urged the UN chief to try to halt the US actions and the upcoming military drills.
