China's top dancer returns to the stage with her latest choreography

Dubbed the Peacock Princess of China, Yang Liping, world-renowned folk dance artist, released her ballet, “Peacock of Winter” in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, on Thursday. The ballet was first presented in the winter in 2016.

From her magnum opus, “The Spirit of Peacock” to this latest piece, Yang said she imbued her thoughts on life into the choreography after she came to a certain point of life. “I’d like to take the younger dancers to the end of life and let them feel rebirth to let them savor the aesthetic of life.”

The stage of "Peacock of Winter" applied mostly black and white colors to represent the conflicts between light and dark, demonstrating the struggle of all living beings caught in between the two extremes.

In addition to her iconic peacock choreography, much of her work is well known to the West, such as “Under Siege” and “Two Trees”.
