Plastered 8: UK expat celebrates Beijing's hutong culture with T-shirt

Dominic Johnson-Hill is a British punk-rock Renaissance man. He is probably best known for kick-starting the transformation of an 800-year-old hutong into one of the most popular tourist destinations in Beijing.
Expat entrepreneur Dominic Johnson-Hill is the owner of Plastered, a quirky T-shirt shop that became an unexpected hit in the Chinese capital. 20 years ago, after spotting a foreigner wearing a novelty t-shirt not to Dominic's taste, the British national saw an opportunity to start a business. Taking inspiration from Beijing old and new, his Plastered 8 t-shirt designs began to celebrate the city in which he lived and raised his family.
DOMINIC JOHNSON-HILL ENTREPRENEUR, "PLASTERED 8" "I'm Dominic Johnson-Hill from the UK. I'm the proud owner of a business. I think hutongs are the soul of Beijing. They're like a living museum, and it feels kind of cool as a foreigner to be in it. I've been in China for many years, and I've lived through a lot of change and development. Because I love the city, everything I create is really a celebration, a celebration of Beijing through my eyes."
Although locals might laugh, Dominic considers himself a Beijinger. After all, he has lived in the city longer than he ever lived in England. And he has no plans to leave any time soon. He hopes to see more cultural exchanges between China and the UK, so more people in Britain could learn about and fall in love with Chinese culture.
DOMINIC JOHNSON-HILL ENTREPRENEUR, "PLASTERED 8" "For me as an artist, or an entertainer, I want to see more collaborations in artistic and creative industries between China and the UK. I hope more foreigners like me can come here and experience what's happening in China."
