Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi arrived in Beijing on Saturday for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, which will be held in the Chinese capital on May 14 and 15.
29 heads of state and government will attend the forum, the highest-profile international meeting on the Belt and Road Initiative since Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the development strategy in 2013.
China and Myanmar established diplomatic ties in 1950 and have a practical history of cooperation in the segments of agriculture, electric power, energy and finance.
In April, President Xi praised Myanmar's engagement with the Belt and Road Initiative during a meeting with the country's President U Htin Kyaw. The two leaders had agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and actively cooperate in Belt and Road construction in the future.
