Hurricane Irma: Category 5 storm makes landfall in central Cuba

The powerful hurricane Irma strengthened to category five and made landfall in the central Cuban province of Camaguey late Friday. The US National Hurricane Center said the storm had maximum sustained winds of nearly 2-hundred and 60 kilometers per hour on early Saturday after making landfall.

Storm surges of up to 3 meters were forecast for parts of Cuba's northern coast, as well as the central and northwestern Bahamas. This is the first time a category five hurricane has hit Cuba in decades. Irma is also considered the most powerful hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic. It is expected to hit Florida in the US on Sunday morning, bringing massive damage from wind and flooding.
