An incident of a baby being accidentally left in a car by their parent in hot weather has recently come to light. Luckily  the two-month-old in east China’s Zhejiang Province was saved by a police officer earlier last Friday, and is now all safe and sound.

When police officer Wang Shuo arrived at the car after receiving the emergency call from the anxious mom, he first tried to break the back window with a police baton but failed.

Then Wang successfully made a hole in the window with the help of other devices provided by passersby, including a screwdriver and a wrench. He stopped hitting the window as soon as he found some of the broken glass was dangerously close to the baby on the back seat.

Without a second thought, Wang chose to break the glass with his bare hands inch by inch, just so he wouldn’t hurt the baby. Slowly, the hole in the window was made large enough for a whole hand to reach for the door handle  from inside.

While the baby was safe, doctors later found some 10 pieces of glass in two of Wang's fingers on his right hand.

The video of him trying to save the baby so carefully has wowed Internet users across China, receiving as many as some 30 millions’ views within 16 hours on the social media platforms. Thousands of netizens were quick to comment and praise the officer, with some suggesting Wang should have protected his hands with some cloth when trying to break the window to reduce his injuries.

“What’s in my mind was all about saving the baby, and I didn’t really feel much pain at that time,” recalled Wang.

Not all such cases have had a happy ending. Recently, two toddlers in Texas were found dead after being left in a vehicle for 15 hours, and their 19-year-old mom was arrested afterwards.

Parents of young babies have been called on to be more aware of the potential dangers of leaving children in cars in the summer.
