In Liberia, former Milan and Chelsea forward George Weah has been sworn in as President. Thousands of supporters in Monrovia, the capital, gathered to watch the 1995 world footballer of the year vow to end corruption in his first address since being elected in December. Dubbed as "King George" during his playing days, the 54-year-old was brought up in the city's slums and was able to rise and play at the highest level in the Premier League, Serie A and Ligue Un. He turned out for his country sixty times with his crowning achievement in the beautiful game coming in 1995 where he won the Balon d'or. He replaces Africa's first female president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and has promised to clean up the nation's government which has reportedly been rife with corruption.
