The Hohhot-Zhangjiakou high-speed passenger rail line, the first of its kind in China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, began the task of testing and debugging on Monday.
The line is expected to open to traffic in 2018 with a designed speed of 250 kilometers per hour.
It will connect with the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway when it becomes operational.
The travel time from Inner Mongolia's capital, Hohhot, to Beijing, will be cut down from nine hours to less than three hours.
